Striking tribal design with soft muted colors accenting a bold center medallion. The Zanjan Weavers were typically nomadic sheep herders. They would search out the mountains for good grazing lands then in the winter they would settle in a protected area and set up their wooden looms. They used the wool off of the sheep they were taking care of, and all the spinning of the yarn, and dying of the wool was all done by the herdsman. The design of the Zanjan rug is determined by the area in which they were close to; such as the Hamadan region or the Bajar region. The pile is wool with a cotton foundation. These are very durable and hard-working rugs and of course one of a kind treasures.
